Nursery at St. Mary’s

St Mary’s Nursery opened in September 2013 and is now part of St Mary’s CE First School. The school is federated with Brewood CE Middle and shares the same Headteacher and governing body. The small and welcoming nursery provides care for 8 children in the morning and afternoon.

Our Aim

At St Mary’s Nursery, we believe that every day is a learning day and that learning is all around us. As well as being a place of learning, we pride ourselves on ensuring that all children are coming in to a loving, caring environment where they are valued and listened to. We aim to provide every child with the best possible start in life, developing a secure foundation for learning.

We also involve children and parents in trying to continually improve. We like the children to feel part of the school community and integrate them into school through library days, assemblies, school productions and school events. We also team up with reception during special events to build childrens confidence and ensure a smooth transition when they begin in reception class.

We recognise the importance of play in a child’s education and provides indoor and outdoor learning opportunities for the children. The Nursery is fully equipped to provide learning opportunities for all. Children can choose to access the outdoor learning environment where they can ride bikes, take part in exploration activities, make a den, dig in the mud kitchen or read a story in the reading garden.

We aim to provide a challenging and safe environment to encourage the child’s confidence and self-esteem. Activities and learning experiences will be provided to encourage and allow children to play through spontaneous and planned purposeful activities, through the prime and specific areas of learning.

Working Together

The provision is led by Mrs Lesley King. Lesley ensures your child’s‘ emerging needs and interests are met whilst also keeping an ongoing assessment of your child and give parents/carers the opportunity to meet to discuss your child’s development. Communication is of the upmost importance and as primary care givers we feel parents/carers have greater knowledge and understanding of how their child learns. Parents/carers are encouraged to share any up-to-date information about their child as staff feel it helps to support a child’s learning. We also encourage parents to contribute to their child’s learning journey through ClassDojo.
